Greater Downtown Action Plan "exciting for Red Deer"

"Roger Brooks was amazing! His three presentations were worth the price of the whole conference. Vibrant and riveting."

"Usable ideas...we will be implementing some of these strategies. We would come again."

Progress and Potential - Red Deer's Greater Downtown Action Plan focussed on Red Deer's vision for the future of its city centre.  It is a long range concept that has a once in a lifetime opportunity to reconnect with the riverfront.  The Key districts will become a focal part of the Greater Downtown area.

Progress and Potential - Red Deer Greater Downtown Action Plan

Roger Brooks Unlock Your Downtown's Potential

The How to Manage a BRZ - The BRZ Handbook session outlined the award winning BRZ Handbook, a document that outlines why and how a business revitalization zone is beneficial to the community

The BRZ Handbook

Downtown Strategies and Policies - This session focussed on how a BRZ can create a strategic plan with their municipality, and strategies for business revitalization zone's to work most effectively with their community planners.

BRZ Strategies and Policies

Social Marketing: The Mayor Nenshi Story - this presentation by Stephen Carter, who worked on the election campaign of the current mayor of Calgary, Naheed Nenshi. The presentation focussed on the importance of social media, how to select the best social media outlet for your business, and tips on how to properly use social media, such as how to not overpopulate your social media and the importance of engaging your social media audience in discussions.

Social Marketing

The Night Time Economies – Entertainment and Social Districts session used examples of the issues Edmonton has faced with the late night crowd in examples of how to engage late night downtown patrons and ensure that the downtown is welcoming and safe to everyone. Installing adequate public and private transportation systems was a large concern, and outlining the details of a marketing campaign to combat violence in clubs was very informative.
