Tax season is one of the most stressful times of the year for many people. Mark Poty, owner of Venture Tax Services, is the man to go see to ease these stresses. Venture Tax Services is one of the many small businesses located in the downtown and a shining example of a downtown business that is a leader in its industry.
A graduate of Red Deer College, Mark decided to stay in Red Deer once entering the working world. He initially chose to locate his business downtown for the simple fact that the Canada Revenue Agency office was nearby and offered services that most of his clients needed. He likes being situated in the downtown because of the the traffic that passes his store. His location on Ross Street gives him great exposure.
Mark likes being close to the local businesses in the downtown. “We are locally owned and you will see that in our practices,” Mark explains. You won’t see the owner of a national corporation doing your tax returns. “Our service level is better because we care more. We work hard to make sure that waiting times are shoreter and that we are faster and more personal,” he adds.
Tax season can be very stressful and one of the best parts of Mark’s job is helping people put the stresses behind them. “I love seeing someone who thought they were going to have to pay on their return find out that they are getting a refund. There are a lot of stresses in the current economical clime and seeing the joy on someone’s face and helping change their life is why I do this," says Mark. He further to explains the process, “A lot of people come in, and don’t understand why they have to pay. If I can help someone understand why they have an amount owing on their return, then they typically leave happier." explains Mark.
Venture Tax Services has extended hours during the tax season. They are open from 9:30 am to 8:00 pm, Monday through Friday and from noon to 5:00 on Saturdays. Venture Tax Services also does not charge for AISH or WCB slips, and has a loyalty program, providing additional savings. Mark also describes his office is comfortable and open, “We have no cubicles, no tight spaces”. The office is bright with natural sunlight and there is even a childrens playcentre.
