Talk of the Town

The clothing store, Talk of the Town, was introduced to Nicole and Wanda Hewitt in July 2011. This mother/daughter team bought the business from Joan Waddell who had owned the store for many years before. Nicole (daughter) was a former salon owner and needed a change of pace while Wanda (mother) was looking for a new career change. This pair enjoys being downtown because of all the hustle and bustle that occurs during the day. “We have a good, existing clientele and the downtown is just a busy, friendly, exciting place to be. We also have so many great business neighbours,” says Nicole.
Talk of the Town sets itself apart by carrying different designers. Instead of carrying “mall brands”, they carry designers such as MEXX and Frank Lyman. In addition to providing higher end fashion, the Hewitts believe in establishing relationships with customers. “We really hope to build a great relationship with our customers and get to know their preference of style so we can fulfill what our clientele is looking for.,” says Nicole.
There is a large age difference between the owners, but you would never know it by how well they get along. There is an air of youthful energy combined with old fashioned customer service. Wanda also mentions that, “We have good variety in clothing and designers because of our age difference.”
The ladies and the occasional gentlemen that come and visit Nicole and Wanda either work in the downtown or travel from out of town. They look forward to building their relationships and customer base in the years to come.
The Talk of the Town provides an aura of class and fashion in the flurry of active downtown Red Deer. In August, the owners are organizing a few promotions including bringing in a few more designer lines. So for a taste of the high fashions of London or New York, come browse through the racks, see what they are all about, and keep your eye on some changes in the near future.
