Tourism Red Deer's Visitor Information Services has been award the prestigious Alto award for service excellence! The Visitor Information Centre had over 77 000 visitors in this calendar year, a record, and is open 364 days a year. Congratulations to Toursim Red Deer for this prestigious award.

With nominations closing at noon yesterday, we have discovered who our final list of candidates is for the upcoming Red Deer civic elections. With a wide variety of beliefs, experiences and platforms, the decision for Red Deerians seems to be a difficult one.

Alberta Arts Days a Smashing Success

Despite some minor weather-related glitches, Alberta Arts Days were a resounding success in Red Deer. With events at a number of schools, The Hub, Red Deer College, and the Alexander Way Arts Festival and Earthdance Celebrations as only a few of the events, Alberta Arts Days gave Red Deerians a wide array of cultural activities to participate in.
Municipal Election Campaign Opens

The race for the open elected positions in Red Deer is heating up, and the Downtown is in the thick of things. Two Election Forums have been announced so far, the first on September 30 at the Golden Circle, from 1 to 3 pm.
Uptown Theatre Getting New Owner?

As reported by Mark Weber of the Red Deer Express, the Central Alberta Theatre is currently negotiating to purchase the currently vacant Uptown Cinema Theatre. For years, the Uptown Theatre was host to some of the biggest films of Hollywood, but, if the Central Alberta Theatre manages to purchase the building, downtown Red Deer should be able to experience a multi-use venue for live theatre and a variety of stage performances. If the bid goes through, the new theatre will likely be opening in early 2011.
