Attention business owners! This holiday season, the City of Red Deer's Environmental Initiatives and Electrical Light and Power have partnered with the Kerry Wood Nature Centre in bringing the incandescent Christmas Light Exchange.
Beginning October 22, bring in two sets of outdoor incandescent Christmas lights, and receive one set of new, energy efficient LED Christmas lights. There are a total of 1100 sets of new lights to give out. The exchange can be made at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre.
There were a couple of suprises, including a tight race for mayor, and the loss of an incumbent councillor, but for the majority, Red Deer's next city council will look fairly similar to our previous council. Mayor Morris Flewelling will return for a third term, defeating upstart challenger Hillary Penko by fewer than 2000 votes.

The Red Deer and District Community Foundation released the results of its Vital Signs survey yesterday, October 5. The Vital Signs survey is designed to engage the community by presentging interesting and relevant data with the intention of increasing awareness of the issues that matter most to Red Deerians.
The dedication to the tourism and service industry was recognized recently at the Red Deer Lodge, with Tourism Red Deer's Red Hat Awards being handed out. The downtown was very well represented with a number of nominees and winners.
