Parking
How much you pay depends on where you park.
Paid parking is in effect in the downtown area. The paid parking system provides drivers with:
* more time to park;
* different payment options;
* greater flexibility in choosing where to park;
* free Saturday, Sunday and holiday parking; and
* free parking after 5pm.
How much does parking downtown cost?
Parking downtown costs anywhere from $0.60 to $1 per hour to depending where you park (9am to 5pm Monday to Friday). Saturdays, Sundays and holidays are free. Different time limits apply for different parking lots and meters (see map for details). Your on-street meter has a coloured sticker identifying the time limit to park at that meter.
Yellow – two hour maximum limit (you have to move your car within two hours)
Orange – two hour limit (you can reload the meter without moving your car)
Green – eight hour limit (a full day of parking from 9am to 5pm)

Sorensen Station Parkade
Sorensen Station Parkade is now open for daily and monthly parking. There are over 300 monthly stalls and 100 daily parking stalls.
Applications for monthly parking can be made at Inspections and Licensing on the 3rd floor of City Hall.
Monthly parking is $80.00 + GST/month.
Daily parking is $0.75/hour up to a maximum of $6.00/day.
Do I have to purchase a Red Deer Parking Card? No. The parking meters use coins (nickels, dimes, quarters, loonies and toonies) while the Parking Pay Stations in City owned parking lots use coins and credit cards in addition to parking cards.
Will I lose all my money on my parking card if I forget to log the card out when I return to my on-street vehicle? No. You will lose the amount of time left on the meter you were parked at.
Where is my meter number if I need to report a meter not working properly? The meter number is located on the pole with a number and a letter, either L (left) or R (right).
Why does my parking meter not operate before 8am? The meter is programmed to operate from Monday to Friday between 9am to 5pm. The meter will accept your parking card or coins after 8am and not deduct time until 9am. This is called a prepay option.
Can veterans park at on-street meters for free? Yes. On November 30, 2009, Council approved free on-street parking for all veterans who display a Veteran Parking Pass. One parking pass per veteran will be issued by the Legion, exempting veterans from on-street parking meter fees, but not parkade or parking lot fees. Veterans must still adhere to all parking signs and regulations, including the time limit specified on the coloured sticker on each meter.
Download a
Veteran Parking Pass Application or pick-up one from the Royal Canadian Legion. The application must be completed and submitted to the Legion before a Veteran Parking Pass can be issued. Veteran Parking Passes will be available on March 1, 2010 at the Royal Canadian Legion.
